While Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio were denouncing Donald Trump for creating an atmosphere that led to the brawl in Chicago, there was a much more tepid response from a candidate from the Democratic side….Hillary Clinton’s take on the Chicago violence :
“ The divisive rhetoric we are seeing should be of grave concern to us all. We all have our differences, and we know many people across the country feel angry. We need to address the anger together,.”
Then Clinton when on to refer to the Charleston massacre for an example of how the country can overcome its divisions.
“ The families of those victims came together and melted hearts in the statehouse and the confederate flag came down. That should be the model we strive for to overcome painful divisions in our country.”
As you can see, unlike Rubio and Cruz, Hillary never mentioned Trump once during the statement which, understandably, left some on the black progressive side more than a little bit perplexed….
like Chad Williams, chair of African and Afro-American studies at Brandeis University who issued a series of tweets :
“Problematic use of Charleston. Why is racial healing always dependent on black forgiveness?
“Hillary Clinton has a policy solution for damn near everything. But when it comes to white supremacist violence it’s ….melted hearts”
Goldie Taylor, editor at large for the Daily Beast also took note,
“Not calling out Donald Trump is a problem”
Eddie S. Glaude III, professor of African-American studies at Princeton chimed in a tweet,
Clintons’ response seemed more concerned about the fact that protestors fought back than with
the racism and the nativism of Trump’s rally.”
Tell me again how Hillary deserves the intense loyalty of the African-American community?
So in a little over 24 hours we have had two tone deaf statements from the Democratic front runner…
Please don’t tell me this is the candidate that we have to drag across the finish line , and who’s shoulders rest the hopes of defeating Donald Trump in November…..
