Senator Sanders gave voice to the Tad Devine devised strategy for a Sanders nomination victory:
In an interview
with CBS’s "Face The Nation," Sanders said that in states he’s won by wide margins, the superdelegates “should listen to the people in their own state.”
“That is common sense and I think superdelegates should do that,” Sanders said.
As for superdelegates in states Clinton won, Sanders argued they should consider nominating him if he’s in a stronger position to defeat Republican Donald Trump in the general election.
“I think you're going to see some superdelegates saying, 'You know what, I like Hillary Clinton, but I want to win this thing. Bernie is our guy.’”
If you are a New Hampshire superdelegate, like Maggie Hassan, you should withdraw your support for Clinton and instead support Sanders. You should listen to your voters.
However, if you are a South Carolina superdelegate like Jim Clyburn, you should withdraw your support for Clinton and support Sanders. You should NOT listen to your voters.
Heh.
Welp, one thing superdelegates definitely should ignore, I suppose, is the actual pledged delegate count. Isn't that convenient?
I can't blame Sanders for making whatever case he can. We heard many of these precise verbatim arguments from Hillary Clinton in 2008. Didn't work then, won't work now. But, it does make you wonder if the movement to ban superdelegates coming from the Sanders end of the party may find some Superdelegates less than receptive. 'Vote for me then ban yourself' might not make for friendly negotiations.
