Taking a break from trying to screw over the LGBT community, Indiana’s Republican Gov. Mike Pence spent Thursday signing a bill that further erodes a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
The bill bans abortions “motivated solely by the mother’s objection to the fetus’s race, gender or disability,” although there’s no word on how this latest exercise in dismantling Roe v. Wade would be enforced given that women aren’t required to provide a reason for wanting an abortion (yet!). So perhaps the sole motivation for this latest piece of restrictive legislation is to scare doctors away from providing abortions, given that the law holds:
… doctors liable if a woman has an abortion solely because of objections to the fetus’s race, sex or a disability, like Down syndrome … and requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital or to have an agreement with a doctor who does.
And just for good measure, Indiana Republicans tossed in a restriction on donating fetal tissue for research, apparently because a group of forced birthers made a series of debunked videos about Planned Parenthood that was a big hit with the GOP and their base.
Speaking of Planned Parenthood, its Indiana chapter announced they will be filing a a preliminary injunction to stop these latest restrictions from taking effect.
