I think the NRA is onto something with its rewrite of classic fairy tales to show what would happen if the characters had been armed.
So, I’d like to try and rewrite a couple things myself, but I’d like to rewrite reality tales rather than fairy tales.
I’m not much of an author, so I submit this to the community for helpful editing.
James Holmes was really upset, and really really mentally ill.
In July of 2012 he went to a movie theater, and he was very upset when he got there.
But James Holmes didn’t have a gun; because a universal background check flagged him as being mentally ill and prevented him from buying one.
He also didn’t have thousands or rounds of ammunition for guns; because the ammunition dealer was responsible and he questioned why anyone needed that much ammo. Running a background check showed that James Holmes wasn’t even supposed to have a gun, much less ammunition, and so James Holmes was denied the ability to purchase this ammunition.
These things happened and worked because no organization was able to prevent the government from enacting real laws to prevent gun violence. The background check system was operational, and the dealers happily worked with it.
James Holmes was really upset that day, and wanted to hurt someone, but instead he went to a theater and enjoyed a movie. Later he left his popcorn bag on the floor for someone else to clean up because someone had to pay for his problems.
