Just got back from a visit with the Republican parents… I thought some people here might be interested in how things look from their perspective.
Some background: They’re life-long Republicans in their 80s, suburban, well-off, educated… What you’d call establishment types.
They favor Rubio, but don’t seem very passionate about him. He’s just the “only reasonable guy left”. I made a point that Rubio just doesn’t seem to have the gravitas to be president, and they didn’t disagree. They seemed a bit deflated that he didn’t do well over the weekend.
They abhor Trump (thank god). They think he’s a piece of slime & would never vote for him. If he’s the nominee, they just wouldn’t vote (at least for President), or would write-in some other name.
Not much opinion on Cruz, but they might vote for him while holding their noses.
They both liked Kasich probably best of the bunch, but don’t think he has a chance.
They’re convinced Clinton is “going to jail” because of her e-mail server thing… like there’s not even a question of it. They think she’s going to be indicted pretty soon, when some FBI report comes out. They think Clinton will be forced to drop-out, and the Democrats will nominate Biden at the convention. They consider Sanders a joke / un-serious candidate.
Another wildcard — If Bloomburg were to run as a Third-party they might consider supporting him.
All-in-all, they were pretty distraught at the state of things. On this, I agreed with them — if the Republicans self-destruct I don’t think it’ll be good for the stability of the country.
