I took a week off from dailykos and every other news source and come back Sunday to discover the changes in play. Apparently Kos has set the Ides of March as the last day anyone can provide open honest opinions on the democratic presidential candidates. There was a nice clarification today that makes clear they can still provide open honest opinions of a positive nature about candidates though.
I diary rarely, and comment slightly more often but have found dailykos as a wonderful place to start my research on a number of causes and candidates. Knowing I could get positives and negatives followed up by links to let me investigate and make my own opinions has been wonderful. But it also has led me to conclusions that will not let me speak here after next week. You see – I am not a sitting member of the US Senate and as such I don’t get to vote for a Supreme Court Justice. As such, if the only reason to support a candidate is because of the Supreme Court, I would have to completely surrender on every other issue that is important to me in order to keep talking here at dailykos.
I cannot say that one candidate is untrustworthy even if I back it up with that candidates specific actions of persuading a president to not back a bankruptcy bill only to back the bill themselves when elected by Wall Street New York. To actually point out the changing position(s) of the candidate on issues ranging from health care, to TPP, to Keystone would ban me for certain as while they are not right wing talking points they are simply not aspects of a candidacy that good people should consider – much less speak about.
So despite Kos’s clarification today I find that his statement made was very clear – If I cannot respect, honor, and glorify Hillary Clinton and solemnly swear to vote for her then I should go elsewhere on the internet as there are other sites I can go to. After the loss of Triciawyse and the sekritarmy the loss of open honest communication truly hits hard. So I must ask for a little direction. Does anyone know of similar websites where people not only discuss honestly the merits (and demerits) of candidates, the development of science issues, the Sunday morning gardening ideas? Somewhere I can go and simply say “I pray Bernie Sanders will stay strong and win the nomination because I really don’t have what it takes to suppress my distaste and vote for a candidate I simply do not trust” without fear of being banned by the sites owner.
I may not matter here – and I may not matter there (wherever there is). However, I want to know that should I have the desire to speak about something I won’t get shut down harder than I do by my wife when I start to tell the joke about – well never mind. So if anyone has some good suggestions could you please tell me where to go? Kos won’t mind – it really sounds like he doesn’t want my opinions around here anyway.
