A resounding thank you to all who made the Sanders’ win in Michigan possible! All of you! All of us!
The Win in Michigan last night was a clear win for the 99%. And it happened because Sanders and his campaign did not give up hope despite a deluge of propaganda to telling us that we were finished, that Sanders had to quit already.
We won because of YOU — all those who supported Sanders through donations, canvassing, phonebanking, prayers, etc.. The win happened by not believing in the futility of our cause of ‘economic and legal justice for all and not just the few’. The win happened by not giving up hope that we can become the “US of America, not just the Me$, Me$, Me$ of America.”
Now as we go on towards the rest of this primary season, let us remember the words of someone else who was facing deep, dark odds and counseled his country to never give up:
Never give in, never give in, never, never, never… in nothing great or tall, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense, never yield to force, never yield to the apparent overwhelming might of the enemy….
Winston Churchill
I am with Bernie and I am with Winston. And I will never give in until ‘the convictions of honor and good sense’ AT THE CONVENTION dictates otherwise. Until then…. (And I would never, never, never vote for Trump or an R. — that would defy my sense of honor and good sense indeed!)
And I deeply thank all my fellow Sander’s supporters for hanging in there in the face of the MSM embargo of Bernie as well as by all the pundit propaganda against our cause of justice for the 99%.
The stunning defeat in Michigan last night was a stark lesson both to the certitude of those who believe that all of the natural order obeys the commands of their statistics, their polls, their pundits, their propaganda. 538 ate crow this morning. Human nature cannot be defined or quantified. And those who attempt to claim the absolute power of predictability over human nature are time and again to learn the lesson of their hubris. Polls that ignore the total socio/political context of the masses/movements and only weigh its metrics in the framework of elections of the past are missing the current climate.
A gentle reminder that the Titanic was also “scientifically proclaimed to be unsinkable:”
On June 1, 1911, the Irish News and Belfast Morning News contained a report on the launching of Titanic's hull. The article described the system of watertight compartments and electronic watertight doors and concluded that Titanic was practically unsinkable.
In 1911, Shipbuilder magazine published an article on the White Star Line's sister ships Titanic and Olympic. The article described the construction of the ship and concluded that Titanic was practically unsinkable.
"God himself could not sink this ship!" This quotation, made famous by Cameron's film, is reputed to have been the answer given by a deck hand when asked if Titanic was really unsinkable.
Whatever the origin of the belief, there is no doubt that people did believe Titanic to be unsinkable.
….
It was the beginning of the twentieth century and people had absolute faith in new science and technology. They believed that science in the twentieth century could and would provide answers to solve all problems.
The sinking of the 'unsinkable' Titanic shattered much confidence in science and made people more sceptical about such fantastic claims.
I for one, am with Sanders til the convention and heartily agree with Churchill, that this is one of those moments in history when you “never give in, never give up.”
This morning a BIG THANK YOU, because without YOU it wouldn’t have happened.
Never, never, never give in…..
Onward March Berners!
