So Bill O’Reilly decided to defend Trump to Tavis Smiley then attempted to continue that discussion with Trump himself and somehow, someway he ended up here…
“How are you going to get jobs for them?” O’Reilly asked. “Many of them are ill-educated and have tattoos on their foreheads, and I hate to be generalized about it but it’s true. If you look at all the educational statistics, how are you going to give jobs to people who aren’t qualified for jobs?”
“Face Tattoos!” That’s the real problem with the blacks, face tattoos. Never mind the fact that Black college gradates are twice as unlikely to find employment than their white counterparts. In fact a Black College gradate is as likely to find a job as a White High school drop out.
The researchers looked at data mainly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census, isolating the effects of race and education on unemployment. They found that an African-American male with an associates degree has around the same chance of getting a job as a white male with just a high school diploma. “At every level of education, race impacts a person’s chance of getting a job,” Tom Allison, a research manager and one of the study’s authors, told ThinkProgress.
The gap in employment chances between whites and African Americans leads to a huge gap in unemployment rates, even long after the recession. In May of this year, African-American millennials faced a 16.6 percent unemployment rate, compared to a 7.1 percent rate for whites of the same age range (18 to 34 years old).
That has nothing to do with “Face Tattoos” and it also has nothing to do with being “Ill-Educated” because this is what happens to the people has have an education. When things are this bad for the graduates, exactly what hope — of any kind -- is there for those who didn’t graduate, or were forced out of school due to excessive racially disparate discipline and suspensions? What hope is there for those with face tattoos when those with diplomas get treated like this?
Taking us back to the beginning the discussion actually started last week with Tavis Smiley who called Donald Trump a “Racial Arsonist” and O’Reilly tried to defend him by claim he’s — get this — never heard Trump disparage “any group, ever.” Yeah, he really said that shit.
Tavis brought up the example of what Trump has said about Mexicans & of course Muslims to which O’Reilly deflected and said that it was “Harsh, but necessary public policy to protect the nation for scores of people coming across our borders and terrorism.”
Which of course is bullshit because the so-called “Rapists” that Trump was talking about are actually pimps and johns in the sex trade industry who live on the southern border of Mexico near Chiapas and aren’t coming here, meanwhile the rate of crime by immigrants is a fraction of the crime from the rest of us. The U.S. has not been attacked by a Muslim Syria refugee, and in fact neither was Paris nor Brussels, so the idea that these policies are “necessary” is just plain crap.
To his credit Tavis suggests that the flip-side of Trump would be if every white person in America were treated as if they were mass murdering racist Dylann Storm Roof. To which I would also add the examples of Planned Parenthood murderer Robert Dear, who apparently idolized abortion provider mass murderer Paul Hill, a man who was visited in prison before his execution by Shelley Shannon who is now serving time for the attempted murder Dr. George Tiller, where she was visited by — you guessed it — Scott Roeder.
Domestic terrorist like these have in fact killed more Americans since 9-11 than Al Qeada or ISIS combined. But y’know let’s not consider the idea of deporting, profiling, surveiling and databasing all the right-wing anti-abortionists and racists in the country as a matter of public safety and “necessary” public policy.
Nah… why do that?
Anyway after his talk with Tavis, O’Reilly decided to take his issues to Trump himself and that’s where things went right off the rails at 2:51.
What’s truly sad is that Trump doesn’t get the core of what O’Reilly is saying — not even a little bit. He just keeps repeating his “we’re gonna get the jobs from Mexico and China” mantra ignoring that fact that those are the suicide net jobs he's talking about. Who the frack wants those?
Seriously?
These are the jobs you’re gonna bring back for the Blacks? Is that supposed to be a step up from sharecropping and cotton-picking? Wunderful. Thanks loads, man.
BO: Smiley brought in the fact that you were this “racial arsonist”, that’s what he used, and I said “hey look, I’ve known the guy 30 years and I’ve never seen any of that. You gotta give me an example and he reallly couldn’t [Yes, He Did!] But that’s the perception in the African-American precincts that you’re a racial guy, you don’t like them.”
Yeah, it’s not like he’s ever said to “knock the hell” out of Black Lives Matter protesters or anything. Or that the he would pay for the defense of the guy who cold-cocked a black guy that was being escorted out of one of his rallies. Nope, nothing like that.
BO: Is there a strategy that you have or your staff has to negate that?
No.
DT: Well, I don’t think it is the perception actually.
Face palm!
I have tremendous numbers of African-American who work for me. I don’t think it’s the perception at all, I think we’re going to do fantastic with African-Americans and Hispanics.
Double Face Palm!
This guy is so clueless to think just because he has his name on paychecks that go to some black people that they are just so incredibly grateful, even though many Latinos he has working for him think he’s a Pendejo. Particularly since many of them came to America without documentation.
But a Trump company may be relying on some undocumented workers to finish the $200 million hotel, which will sit five blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to several who work there. A Trump spokeswoman said the company and its contractors follow all applicable laws. But in light of Trump’s comments, some of the workers at the site said they are now worried about their jobs — while others simply expressed disgust over the opinions of the man ultimately responsible for the creation of those jobs.
...
Interviews with about 15 laborers helping renovate the Old Post Office Pavilion revealed that many of them had crossed the U.S-Mexico border illegally before they eventually settled in the Washington region to build new lives.
Several of the men, who hail mostly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, have earned U.S. citizenship or legal status through immigration programs targeting Central Americans fleeing civil wars or natural disasters. Others quietly acknowledged that they remain in the country illegally.
These guys work for you too Donald, but it doesn’t mean they like you.
BO: What’s your message to African-Americans?
DT: My message is I’m going to bring jobs back, Bill. And they’re going to have jobs, because right now we don’t have jobs. China has the jobs, Mexico has the jobs, Japan has the jobs.
And apparently your company in Washington DC has the jobs, if you’re an illegal immigrant willing to work for cash under the table. Anyway, it goes on like that until O’Reilly brings up the “Face Tattoos” and even after Trump doesn’t really respond and just keeps with “We don’t have the jobs” spiel.
BO: But what about the grievance industry run by your friend Al Sharpton? We want to bring prosperity to all Americans, not job blacks, but we “owe them” because of the historical atrocities that they had to live through, their families, and their ancestors. How you gonna do that?
He’s not, as I pointed out in my last diary about the growing intimidation and racial harassment on our college campuses by Trump supporters, on top of voter suppression, mob violence, beatings and police targeting and murders of innocent unarmed men — he and his ilk are bringing those atrocities BACK.
DT: We think we’ll do fine.
Head. hits. Desk! AArrgh.
The point is that it doesn’t matter how many more jobs we get back from China, Mexico or Japan if will still have structural racism marring our employment practices. When Black college graduates, they guys and gals who are educated, who did all the hard work, have done what they’re supposed to do are still getting shut out of the workplace by a factor of 2 to 1, that’s simply not. good. enough. Even after getting on the job, minorities and women get paid less.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2011, white people made up 81 percent of the work force. Blacks comprised 12 percent, followed by Asians at 5 percent. American Indian and Alaska Natives were approximately 1 percent. Ethnic groups were represented by Hispanic or Latino workers of any race at 15 percent. Asians led the median usual weekly earnings at $866, followed by Whites at $755 and $615 for Blacks. Hispanics had the lowest median weekly earnings at $549.
It’s after this point that O’Reilly goes into the “Face Tattoos” thing and again Trump just keep saying “We’re going to get the skill and the education” without saying how.
BO: How are you going to get jobs for them?” O’Reilly asked. “Many of them are ill-educated and have tattoos on their foreheads, and I hate to be generalized about it but it’s true. If you look at all the educational statistics, how are you going to give jobs to people who aren’t qualified for jobs?
DT: We’re gonna bring jobs back. We’re gonna have Apple computers made in this country not China. We will get the skills, we will get the skills, we have an incredible population.
Actually the parts are made in Germany, they only do assembly in China not just because they’re cheap but also because their fast, flexible and reliable. But even the Foxconn workers in China are being replaced by Robots. Once that happens sure we can get those robot jobs back to America, but I don’t see it helping any Americans that much.
It’s at this point that O’Reilly actually says something pretty amazing in response to Trump’s stonewalling, and it’s the reason I bothered to write all this. Check it out.
BO: It’s more challenging in the African-American community. When we drive up to Yankee Stadium we go through Harlem. It’s more challenging for an African-American to grow up in Harlem without parental guidance, in a school that’s falling apart, than it is for some White kid out in Garden City. You say you’re gonna bring jobs back, but if the kid isn’t qualified and can’t do the work. You got to get into the infrastructure of the African-American community, do you have any plan to do that?
I would argue that he’s talking about a crumbling school system and community that didn’t just magically happen, it’s the result of red-lining, white flight, over incarceration and economic divestment. Those are all yet again more of the ongoing atrocities that Bill talked about earlier as being “historical” and it’s exactly what and why — yes — black people are indeed OWED!
America owes us fixing all that shit.
Black people didn’t make that mess all on their own, they had a lot. of. help. O’Reilly at least and at last for once recognizes at this point that circumstances are not equal. It’s long been said that a black man in America has to be “Twice as good in order to get half as far.”
There are a great many black people who have proven this to be true, from Jesse Owens, to Jackie Robinson, Sojourner Truth, Dr Martin Luther King, Frederick Douglas, to Dr Ben Carson and of course President Barack Obama.
They all know what struggles and difficulties they’ve had to face, the seeming impossible odds against them and they fought on anyway. Despite those odds they won, but not everyone is going to. The problem is that you simply can’t expect everyone to be superhuman. You can’t expect everyone to be twice as good and be willing to happily accept half the compensation and credit for it.
Some people find that the be a raw deal. Some people think that’s straight up bullshit. Because it is.
Some of them have “Face Tattoos” — does he mean like Mike Tyson or like Little Wayne? Seems to me both of them are pretty damn talented despite the face tattoos. Maybe that’s true of other people as well.
People like O’Reilly don’t think it’s wrong to pre-judge someone based on their personal fashion choices. To him corporate acceptability and social “respectability” politics should outweigh actual talent, education and skill. If they’ve got a “face tattoo” they’ve got no right to even have a fair chance? Yeah, that’s Just like Don Lemon says the same thing about “sagging pants”, but you see even if you pull your pants up, and take out the nose ring and the tongue stud so you can be acceptable to corporate America, you’re still gonna be who you are and their still gonna keep on judging you anyway.
How much of yourself are you supposed to compromise for respectability? And if you have to make those compromises for the sake of people who are going to be judging you before they even give you a chance to prove yourself, if you have to cowtow to their prejudice on this issue what is there to protect from their prejudice in other areas?
Nothing.
Which is exactly what Trump has say to about any of this. Nothing.
DT: Well it is true and it’s about education but it’s also about spirit. A lot of people don’t have spirit, not only African-Americans, we don’t have spirit in our country. White people they borrow a lot of money, they go to college and they can’t get a job. The single biggest question I get are from young kids that are in colleges, cuz I see them all over and they want to talk to me. I say “What is it? Before you even talk I’ll tell you, You’ve borrow up to the hilt, you’ve done well in college and now you’ve graduated and now you can’t get a job.” They say “Mr Trump, how did you know?” It’s a real problem.
Uh. Um, what’s that got to do with “Spirit?” Was he trying to say you could just will yourself a job? Forget the bootstraps just get some Redbull because it give you wings? I can’t even.
The thing about Trump is that yes, that’s a real problem — which is in fact twice as bad for black college graduates — and he’s got literally, nothing but we’re gonna get you those robot Foxconn jobs back.
Thanks for less than nothing pal.
Oh and the thing about being an “Arsonist” has begun to backfire on the Colorado GOP as they’ve started receiving Death Threat from the Trumpinators. If it’s getting this bad for white GOPers who make Trump mad, how bad do you think it’s gonna get for black and brown people?
From Indiana to Colorado to Tennessee, those involved in the delegate selection process are receiving harassment and even death threats from Trump fans who believe that the system has been “rigged” against the real estate mogul.
...
“There has definitely been some activity that’s ranged from proper First Amendment, if not proper English, responses to public comments to things that are a little bit more spooky or problematic,” Tom John, a GOP district chair in Indiana, told TPM, adding that most of the backlash he has received has been in emails or on Twitter.
“There have been a few [messages] for myself and others that have referenced personal things, things you’ve said on social media, references to our families, references to our houses, things like that that feel a little bit more ominous,” he said.
Yeah, now that’s a fire. That’s a Fire.
