Since I have only one other diary up on Daily Kos, I wish that this one were longer, but it is what it is. My recently-finalized (as much as it can be) decision to support Hillary Clinton didn’t inoculate me against concerns about how her candidacy would fare against Trump or Cruz. Both men appear to be narcissistic, and don’t seem particularly fazed by attacks from their opponents. And both seem solidly convinced that their presidential aspirations are “anointed” (in Cruz’s case, literally, by God). After reading this, however, my concerns have been considerably allayed:
Clinton was asked on ABC News' "This Week" to respond to Trump calling her "crooked Hillary." She replied that she doesn't respond to Trump's "string of insults" and that she looks forward to running against him if they are their respective parties' nominees.
"What I’m concerned about is how he goes after everybody else. He goes after women. He goes after Muslims. He goes after immigrants. He goes after people with disabilities. He is hurting our unity at home," Clinton said. "He is undermining the values that we stand for in New York and across America. And he’s hurting us around the world. He can say whatever he wants to say about me. I really could care less." — Talking Points Memo
This is absolutely the correct way to respond to egocentric bullies. Not by responding in kind; not by claiming “he started it.” Clinton seems to understand what Thomas More understood a half-century before her: “The devil . . . the proud spirit . . . cannot endure to be mocked.” Bravo.
