Two new co-hosts for the first-ever U.S. Senate Open Debate have been announced -- the Progressive Change Institute and Americans for Tax Reform.
Over 200,000 votes have been cast so far at FloridaOpenDebate.com. Momentum for Open Debates is building!
The PCI’s co-founders, Adam Green and Stephanie Taylor, along with ATR’s president Grover Norquist are the early leaders of the bipartisan Open Debate Coalition -- all the way back to 2008. Now the two groups are teaming up to bring us the historic Open Debate in Florida between David Jolly and Alan Grayson on Monday, April 25 at 7pm ET.
“The people deserve more of a voice over what questions get asked of politicians, and we are proud to be a member of the Open Debate Coalition and a co-host of this historic Open Debate for U.S. Senate,” said Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. “Hopefully, numerous Open Debates happen this 2016 cycle -- including in the presidential race. This Florida Senate Open Debate could be a prelude of innovations to come in the fall presidential debates.”
The Commission on Presidential Debates is watching to see if the Open Debate model can be used in presidential debates this fall. Participation is key to making them take notice!
Momentum for Open Debates is growing:
The moderators for the debate will be The Young Turks and the Independent Journal Review, who are among the top Youtube and Vine newschannels. They must choose from the top 30 vote-getting questions submitted by voters at FloridaOpenDebate.com.
Top questions include whether the candidates would support protecting Social Security, whether they support the Trans-Pacific Partnership, how to reform campaign finance laws, and if the candidates would support breaking up the big banks.
Don’t wait! Submit your question and vote on others. Anyone across the nation can vote. Let’s make Open Debates the new norm!
