This is the first the slideshow in years, and only the second one I have ever done (the first was for my father’s funeral, and was pretty much just seen by my family). I heard this song for the first time in years yesterday, and immediately got the idea for the slideshow. I really haven’t been able to concentrate on anything else. I think it turned out pretty well.
The song is from Don Maclean’s followup album (entitled “Don Maclean”) to the massively successful “American Pie.” I had always assumed the song was a probing, cynical attempt at self-evaluation as he tried to deal with sudden success. Nevertheless, as with all great art, he has managed to turn the personal into the universal. Certainly,I know that the song spoke to me so strongly because I recognized that it addressed the aspiration, emptiness, and self-doubt that I felt. Apparently, I had more in common with Trump than I thought.
Hope you like the song.
