I got news for all the climate deniers out there : even the big oil companies know that you are full of crap! In fact they knew as far back as the 70’s. That’s the gist of newly uncovered corporate documents by DESMOG. www.desmogblog.com/…
The corporate documents brought to light by the organization show very clearly that the company knew damn well that CO2 produced by the burning of fossil fuels was a growing problem well understood within the company.
“It is assumed that the major contributors are the burning of fossil fuels….There is no doubt that increases in fossil fuel usage and decrease of forest cover are aggravating the the potential problem of C02 in the atmosphere. Technology exists to remove C02 from stack gases but removal of only 50% of C02 would double the cost of power generation. (bold italics added)”
According to DESMOG , those lines appeared in a 1980 report, “Review of environmental protection activities for the year 1978-1979,” produced by Imperial Oil, Exxon’s Canadian subsidiary. In other words, Exxon knew about the problem, they knew it damaged the environment, and they knew how to fix it. They just felt it would cost too much money and , you know, reduce profits. You have to let that sink in for awhile to understand the depth of the greed and immorality involved here. One is left to wonder if these people have kids or relatives that they care about and what kind of planet they want to leave behind for them.
Exxon Understood Climate Science, Yet Funded Decades of Climate Science Denial
”Despite Exxon’s advanced scientific understanding of the role of C02 pollution from fossil fuel burning causing atmospheric disruption, the company shelved its internal concerns and launched a sophisticated to sow doubt and create public distrust of climate change. This included extensive lobbying and advertising activites, publishing weekly op-ed in the New York Times and other activities.”
There are already groups looking into the legal ramifications of this epic con job that could result in the ultimate destruction of the planet we call home. Only God can look into the moral ramifications.
