Framed. As in George Lakoff.
I can’t believe we fell for it. Back and forth salvos about not being qualified for the Presidency is, of course, a non-story. Both candidates are qualified to be President.
I for one believe Bernie is the more qualified. He has both executive and legislative experience, in both chambers of congress. If Washington is all about making sausage, then why not pick an expert at it?
Clinton’s supporters believe she is more qualified, because of her stint as Secretary of State. In fact, they believe this is one of the strongest arguments for her candidacy.
If Clinton had introduced the notion that she is more qualified into the narrative leading up to the New York primary, I’d say that argument would have fallen on deaf ears. It’s not a new talking point. Ho hum.
So what happens? With an assist from scandalmongering media, they introduce a story about her opponent not being qualified. And in so doing, consume an entire news cycle in a discussion about their preferred talking point.
