Happy May Day !
And welcome to another of our weekly BAK Open Threads. Click through for a look at what’s new with our little group and some news and views from the southern half of the Grand Canyon State.
First a tune …
I was reminded of this one by conversation at the picnic. It was released in 1987, after Merle had become disillusioned with Ronald Reagan.
Picnic Report
The 6th Annual Baja Arizona Kos Picnic took place yesterday at the beautiful oasis that is Agua Caliente Park.
Your humble diarist arrived early to hold our spot. This is the best spot in the entire park and the only one with both a grill and shade in the afternoon. I was there at 11. At around 12:30 the wind picked up and clouds blew in. Shade was no longer important since there wasn’t any sun. The temperature was cool. The other members arrived right on time and we commenced picnicking. Attendance was down this year. We were 5 total, including the long-suffering Mrs. Z. This was fewer than showed up last year at the 5th Annual in Bisbee. In fact, the attendees were exactly the same people who went to the planning meeting: rasbobbo, ramara, ItsaMathJoke and the Zellos. We have a year to talk about whether or not we wish to continue the tradition.
Ay, que bonito bailan …
las hijas de Don Simón. Anybody remember this one ?
Space Balloons
There’s a lot of buzz among the BAK about space balloons. A company called World View is building a plant in Tucson to manufacture balloons to carry equipment, and people, into space. The company received grants and tax breaks from both the city of Tucson and Pima County. The $20 million incentive package from the county spawned a lawsuit from the Goldwater Institute. I’m not a fan of said institute and as far as I’m concerned, if they’re against it I’m for it. You can got to World View’s website (HERE) to check out “The Experience,” that is, the little pods they expect to sell space rides in.
From my garden …
One of our night-blooming cacti went off last week. Here’s a photo:
OK,
That’s all I got this week. Anybody out there ?
