You may not be familiar with the name of Milana Vayntrub, but you probably know her face from her successful run as "Lily" in a long series of commercials for AT&T. What you probably don't know about this actress and comedienne is she has become an activist for Syrian refugees and recently started a nonprofit called Can't Do Nothing in order to help out the victims fleeing the civil war. The cause is rather close to her heart since she too was a refuge as a child.
Vayntrub's parents fled Uzbekistan in 1989 as the country was then on its way to being ruled by the oppressive and murderous regime of Islam Karimov after the fall of the Soviet Union. Milana was only two years old at the time so she has a particular understanding of what it means for refugees with kids trying to find a better and safer life for their children.
Vayntrub started the nonprofit after a revelation hit her while in Athens, Greece. She was on vacation and did something that many do not take the time to do when escaping work: she noticed the plight of people around her. She then went a step much further and went to greet incoming refugees and help them however she could. She brought food and helped take care of children as they arrived on the beaches in Greece. She made a video of her experience to help show the world what it was really like for those arriving in a foreign land in hopes of a better life.
