Yes, it’s true. Even when it is clear that the candidate can not and will not win the nomination, the candidate persists in claiming that victory is still a possibility:
Clinton on the day before the last primary in 2008, long after it was clear that Obama would be the nominee.
In fact, on the night of the last primary, June 3, Clinton told her supporters that she was the strongest candidate to take on the GOP in November and that she was taking her case to the superdelegates — even though Obama had sewn up the nomination in early May.
Some supporters, apparently, were buying that she still had a legitimate chance.
At the meeting of the DNC Rules Committee on May 31, 2008, Clinton representative Harold Ickes and a number of her supporters were incensed that the DNC refused to seat the full Michigan and Florida delegations. There was even violence!
Supporters of Mrs. Clinton jeered the decision, loudly booing and hissing the members of the group as their faces were shown on a large screen in the room.
One woman, wearing a blue “Team Hillary” shirt, shoved a man in a suit and tie with a small Obama button on his lapel. Another woman in a white Clinton shirt hung her head in her hands.
“That was a crime!” a man shouted. “McCain in 08! McCain in 08!” a woman yelled from the back of the room. “No-bama! No-bama!”
This woman couldn’t contain herself:
You’d think the candidate could rein in supporters like this woman.
But it didn’t end there. Some Clinton supporters took it all the way to the convention, even though Clinton ended up endorsing Obama four days after the last primary.
One has to wonder why the candidate didn’t tell this supporter to knock it off.
Some supporters absolutely refused to admit that Obama would be the nominee, even at the time of the convention. This woman had not been appropriately “courted” by Obama. (Worth watching for the laughs.)
Even Larry King was incredulous...
Some Clinton folks showed up at the convention and they were pissed!
The DNC was worried about disruptions at the convention in Denver.
Wow! That’s some real anger there!
“Election fraud!”
“The DNC stole the election!”
“We’re not gonna’ sit there and allow them to do this to us!”
One would think the candidate would rein in her supporters. But, no! Damn it!
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little stroll down Memory Lane...
