Greetings!
… and welcome to another Baja Arizona Kossacks Open Thread. I am your host today, providing a bit of Baja news and of course pictures from my backyard.
AZ-02 / AZ-03
None of our Democratic candidates has any upcoming events posted on FB right now. It's still a long way to the primary.
Did anybody go to Victoria Steele's campaign office opening this week? She posted pictures of the event on FB, but I didn't see anybody I knew. It looks like a good time was had by all. If you did go, plz report in the comments!
Have you heard the rumor that ex-governor Jan Brewer is on tRump's list of VP possibilities? I've heard that one in several places, but it doesn't seem likely to me. Also heard this week: Matt Heinz suggested that Martha McSally is also on that potential VP list. It seems like that would be a good thing for Heinz, maybe even for all of us: it would get McSally out of her current office, and put her into a position that has very little power or influence. Win!
Propositions in the News
Yes, both propositions on the ballot passed this week. Democracy, so yay.
Nestlé Expanding Water Extraction Operations in Phoenix
According to this article I saw this week, the Nestlé company will be inserting themselves into the Arizona water-usage cycle. They will be paying less for the water than we pay for getting it from the tap. They'll put the water into a nice little bottle, and then sell us the bottle and charge us for the water, plus the bottle, plus some more just for the joy of having them there in the middle of the process.
People in places that get regular rain, such as Pennsylvania and Oregon, have recently thrown these jokers out. But we, living in an actual desert, with our hundred-year supply laws and such, are their next target of opportunity, to the tune of 264 million bottles per year.
I. Can't. Even.
And here are two pictures from my backyard:
