You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the Texas Board of Education runoff. Mary Lou Bruner was running for a position on the Texas Board of Education and she was doing very well. She had the Tea Party’s endorsement (probably her theory that the teaching of evolution has lead to mass school shootings). This won her the primary position with 48 percent of the vote in March. But Mary Lou had some more insane theories, including one about President Barack Obama making money, to feed a drug habit, as a gay prostitute. This was a real idea she had in her head; and while that theory was nuts with a capital NUTS, it was just the tip of the how-was-this-person-allowed-to-teach-students-for-so-many-years crazy. She had theories about the death of john F. Kennedy that would make the most ardent conspiracy theorist blush. As more attention was paid to Mary Lou’s ideas, her lead diminished until unfortunately, the attention that Mary Lou Bruner’s ideas got was a little too much for the Tea Party who pulled their endorsement during the runoff. Yesterday the runoff was decided and sadly, Mary Lou Bruner will not be on the Texas Board of Education.
Even though Mary Lou Bruner went into Tuesday's runoff election in Texas as the frontrunner for a seat on the state board of education, she ultimately lost the election Tuesday night to Keven Ellis, a chiropractor and local school board president in Lufkin.
That’s the good news. Bruner lost the Tea Party, and when you lose the Tea Party you either just walk away or you go and find a public ranch to occupy.
