As this long campaign season wears each candidate down, voters begin to see glimpses of the true personas of their favorites. Leaving the “Lucifers and Hitlers” to the GOP side, our focus has been to hold long-time politician Bernie Sanders to the same scrutiny that Hillary Clinton has been under for a quarter of a century.
In previous posts we have looked closely at some of Sander’s votes and causes: From his
alliance with the NRA, his failures to compromise and join the Democratic party, we are doing exactly what Karl Rove, his American Crossroads SuperPac and an estimated 1/2 billion dollars is doing in gleeful anticipation of a Sanders nomination.
In this post we turn to his wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders who in recent weeks has taken a more forthright and deeply negative public position. Her caustic rhetoric threatens the electability of anyone in the Democratic Party, and that’s the last thing we need right now.
SIERRA BLANCA and FEC DISCLOSURES
There’s an ugly history of the proposed deal between the states of Texas, Vermont and Maine to bury radioactive waste in a rural, poor part of West Texas. It has been fully documented and well-known as it has caused INTENSE disagreements in Congress. While Bernie Sanders, then a Vermont Congressman led the fight for this bill, others like the late great progressive, Senator Paul Wellstone vehemently opposed the measure that would punish the poverty stricken residents of Sierra Blanca. This fight has been ongoing since 1998.
It was written that “Texas governor George W. Bush and Independent Congressman Bernie Sanders both see it as a sacrifice zone”. What most people do not know is that
the site was never built. In December 2014, the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant closed down. The nuclear waste generated remains in Vermont at this writing. This is one commonality
Bush and Sanders shared. It is seldom addressed and many claim that it is inconsequential. Certainly, the residents of Sierra Blanca beg to differ.
So, why is Jane Sanders still on the Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission receiving
$4900 per year as an alternate commissioner ? That’s a damn good question, and since neither Bernie or his wife have been vetted, and we mean VETTED, scrutinized to the hilt like Hillary Clinton has, no one is asking. If anyone thinks that the GOP won’t pounce on any negatives in his/her repertoire, they’re certifiable and delusional.
Even more worrisome is Dr. Sanders tenure as the President of Burlington College ( 2004-2011). No matter how many ways they try to disguise it she has been the subject of an Fraud investigation since. She was forced to resign amid allegations of bank fraud .
On April 28 Bernie Sanders once again
asked for yet another extension of his Financial Disclosure Forms. While Hillary Clinton has released 8 years of all her required documents, Senator Sanders has yet to do so. Transparency is demanded of his rivals, not his own campaign.
Time To Face The Music, Bernie and Jane!
We know we take risks of BernieBros invaders storming our social media platforms. As stalwart progressives like Russell Simmons, George Takei, Anne Rice and Pulitzer Prize Winning Economist, Paul Krugman have learned all too well, the passionate Bernie supporters
cannot tolerate a hint of criticism or accountability. Here is Jane saying that
she doesn’t take Paul Krugman seriously as an economist. Once you express healthy doubt over some of the proposals of the Sanders campaign, you are now persona non grata.
Even Rachel Maddow found her voice of reason and launched an
epic soliloquy about the radical convention strategy espoused by Jane Sanders. To create mayhem and disunity at the DNC would be playing with fire and giving Donald Drumpf a chance to put his idea of a worthy SCOTUS Justice on the High Court. That is simply too dangerous to mess with and finally people are starting to fear such madness.
The lack of rational thought that has gone into the presumption that Bernie Sanders should be the Democratic nominee is rather stunning. This
Boston Globe piece nicely illustrates how Bernie has divested himself of reality.
We are afraid of the consequences of playing fast and loose with this election and we hope the Democratic Party can unite around one candidate without splintering the party into smaller factions. Everyone must participate to prevent a President Drumpf.
