What if your candidate doesn't win? Wouldn't you like a say over who comes in second, third, fourth, etc.? This is the best method for fixing that problem:
I teach college math and have read the 152-page paper* behind the "Schulze Method" of Condorcet preferential voting. It's ideal for determining which candidate the voters most prefer compared to all others, and by several measures is superior to all other Condorcet voting methods.
The math looks daunting to lay readers' eyes, I'm sure, but I promise it's valid, it's easy to code, AND the voters will never have to worry about any of that complexity at all.
All the voter needs to do is rank the candidates they prefer (1,2,3,4,...), BUT a value can be repeated (1,1,2,4...), skipped (1,3,4,5...), or left blank (1,_,2,_,...), and still the Schulze Method works brilliantly and simply.
Did I mention that Markus Schulze works as a theoretical physicist at CERN?
