I have been perusing more than a few diaries that have had comments expressing outrage that Bernie Sanders endorsed Marci Kaptur. Ostensibly due to her less than pristine choice record. Now much of the consternation may be only because whatever Sanders supports must be wrong to some at this point. However, I notice this phenomena from time to time: a good democrat is excoriated for not being sufficiently supportingt the climate, gay rights, gun control or some other deviation from Progressive orthodoxy.
Now I am not referring to someone like Joe Lieberman or Zell Miller who eventually became Dinos. I am referring to Democrats that vote 60-90% with our most liberal House or Senate members. Maybe I am a sellout, but I would rather have 300 Democrats in the House with 10-15 Heath Shulers, and another 85-100 that suck on certain issues. So Marcy Kaptur and 25-30 others cannot support legislation that allows federal funds for abortion.
Fine we have 270 others that we can work on getting a majority. MK and others like her will help us on environmental issues and banking regulations. We can’t get anything done with 180 Barbara Lee’s or whomever is your ideal Democratic politician.
Perhaps I am making too much out of this sentiment, but I have noticed it in a sizable subset for over a decade here at DK. I would have thought the fallout of the 2010 midterms would have cured the place.
