I have never really had a strong opinion on guns or gun rights. I’m starting to rethink my views (or lack of them). The real apparent source of genocide against Americans is...other Americans, not foreign enemies. I’ve always hated annoying cliches like “We have met the enemy and he is us” but it is very true. What changed my mind about guns is what has always bothered me about the issue...not guns but the people most supportive of gun rights. They are an unreasonable, rigid, unthinking and dogmatic bunch of morons! They remind me of all those typical movement conservatives who wildly fulminate against “sitchiashunust ethics” as if ethical decisions aren’t always affected by the particulars of any given situation! This is precisely what the founders, to whom they always breathlessly refer to support their stupid arguments about guns, regarded as absolutism, an egregious sin against reason which always led to chaos and tyranny!
To movement conservatives and all those considering themselves “strict constructionists” in constitutional matters, rights, like every other principle, is absolute. It is or it isn’t. Black or white with no shades of grey. This is why they oppose situation ethics or more nearly why they are situation ethics deniers; situationism in ethical thought isn’t really an ism at all-it just is! But all the bloodshed in America (and elsewhere) be damned; gun rights are absolute regardless of all the problems that exist today that didn’t two and a half centuries ago made even worse by internet and gun show loopholes allowing every last psychotic with an axe to grind to acquire a deadly automatic weapon. Either you have a right to a gun or your don’t, no qualifiers!
I’m always shocked and amazed by the dogmatic fools that crawl out of the woodwork after some horrible tragic gun violence incident. After the Sandy Hook incident, in which twenty young school children and six of their teachers and other school staff were brutally gunned down by a psychopath with an automatic weapon, gun nuts wasted no time in attacking the victims in defense of their “gun rights.” At the State of Connecticut General Assembly hearings gun nuts showed up, some in combat fatigues, to shout down the parents of the murdered children one of whom was the grieving father of Jesse Lewis, age six, who asked only why assault rifles with high capacity clips were allowed to be sold in the State of Connecticut. This level of disrespect toward grieving parents of murdered children is unprecedented in this country.
Gun nuts are haters pure and simple. And they are very scarey people who like to use hysteria based on disinformation about their guns allegedly getting confiscated to stir up hate for partisan advantage. One of many egregious examples is their hateful response to the final text of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) released in March 2013 and signed by then Secretary of State, John Kerry in September of that year. It entered into force in December 2014. The ATT, which was an idea that has been considered in the US and elsewhere since 2006 when Bush rejected it, is merely a rational response to the problem of a multibillion dollar global small arms trade which spiraled out of control some time ago. The problem is that in the global age there is no way to keep guns out of the hands of a variety of international outlaws such as gang members, drug dealers, extremist political groups of various types and organized crime syndicates. The ATT would legally oblige the government signatories to help reduce international arms sales that already violate many national legal restrictions on such sales in an effort to reduce the widespread crime and violence caused by such sales.
A UN press release on the ATT is very clear about the treaty’s intent;
The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is a multilateral, legally-binding agreement that establishes common standards for the international trade of conventional weapons and seeks to reduce the illicit arms trade. The treaty aims to reduce human suffering caused by illegal and irresponsible arms transfers, improve regional security and stability, as well as to promote accountability and transparency by state parties concerning transfers of conventional arms. The ATT is not an arms control treaty, per se, and does not place restrictions on the types or quantities of arms that may be bought, sold, or possessed by states. It also does not impact a state’s domestic gun control laws or other firearm ownership policies.
The ATT simply asks the parties to the treaty to establish common laws and standards on the international flow of arms not domestic gun laws. The Treaty requires that member states, “...adopt basic regulations and approval processes for the flow of weapons across international borders, establishes common international standards that must be met before arms exports are authorized, and requires annual reporting of imports and exports to a treaty secretariat.” It also requires a list of banned or restricted weapons to be established including many times of small arms from automatic firearms to various types of artillery, ordnance and anti-personal weapons. Are the gun nuts so afraid they won’t have access to these things to “protect themselves from the gummint” that they’re willing to allow drug cartels and urban gang members, who kill thousands of innocents yearly, illegal access to them?
The answer is yes! So much so that they spread the usual bigoted lies and hate against the people they regard as their real enemies, Jews, liberals, foreigners, etc. Snopes fact checkers quoted part of a circular by the gun nuts regarding the ATT.
On Wednesday the Obama administration took its first major step in a plan to ban all firearms in the United States. The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg.
I’ll bet da Rothschilds are in on this too!! Da leftieInternationalJewbankercommieObamalovinglibrulz are a commin’ fer yer guns!! Head fer da hillz!!
Snopes debunks this mess by simply stating;
The Arms Trade Treaty has nothing to do with restricting the legal sale or ownership of guns within the United States. The aim of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty is to combat the illicit international trade of arms by "tightening regulation of, and setting international standards for, the import, export and transfer of conventional weapons" in order to "close gaps in existing regional and national arms export control systems that allow weapons to pass onto the illicit market..."
In addition, Obama pledged to enforce the terms of the Treaty only with the understanding that American’s second amendment rights are in no way compromised by it. Furthermore, adherence to the ATT must not compromise sovereign US control over the domestic sale, manufacture and possession of guns. Despite this stated commitment, gun nuts in the Senate and their supporters killed ratification of the ATT in 2013. The gun nuts circulated a forged memo on the internet allegedly put out by a UN Office on Disarmament Affairs special study group stating a number of falsehoods about the ATT. The forged memo was appended to a circular that named the 46 “offending” legislators that supported the treaty. The gun nuts action was so outrageous that the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) saw fit to run a piece on their website debunking the gun nuts’ deliberate lies. The name of the piece is More Distortions on Arms Treaty and they point out that;
The memo attached to the email is highly dubious. While there is a UNODA program, they do not address confiscation of personal conventional arms, and they are extremely transparent in their actions. The group publishes all of their proceedings in meticulous fashion at their website...Nowhere on that site or any other source could we find any study group with the one listed in the memo, and commission press releases for the dates listed have nothing to do with confiscating privately owned firearms. The memo attached to the message included two recommendations that would have been much bigger news if any of this was close to accurate – codification of laws to make all non-military or law enforcement possession of firearms illegal, and the establishment of a UN run police force to enforce the laws. Neither of these items are included in the Arms Trade Treaty, and the Senate has not addressed the referenced recommendation from the study group, most likely because it doesn’t exist. If somehow our research into this issue overlooked a reliable source that points to the memo being genuine, please let us know. But even if that is the case, it had absolutely nothing to do with the Senate’s vote on the ATT or the treaty itself.
This is only one of the problems with far rightwing conspiracy mongering; not only is their “logic” dubious they never realize how implausible their insane allegations really are! As bad as guns are, the gun nuts disturb even more! This is because achieving their paranoid armed dystopia is more important to them than democratic values, society or people's lives.
It is obvious that the gun nuts aren’t worried about protecting constitutional rights or freedoms. They’re hateful bigoted, extremist nut jobs who are a threat to all of us. They're clearly willing to lie and spread hate to advance their sick agenda. They're just as much a death cult as ISIS!
It is perfectly clear that our right to life is greater than a nutjob’s right to have any kind of weapon they want regardless of the consequences for society. And yes, guns DO kill people, especially in the hands of some psychotic who's so called gun rights are more important than all of our lives as far as the second amendment’s most stalwart supporters are concerned!
