About ten years ago, I wrote a novella called “ElderCare.” A few years later, I tried illustrating it. I even started a webpage for “ElderCare,” www.facebook.com/…, although I got few hits. And yet the story in the novel — a wild satire — has become more and more relevant.
Here’s the idea: in the year 2036, our world is suffering from overpopulation, due mainly to the fact that senior citizens are living longer and longer. The average age at death is 108, so the cost for health insurance providers is becoming higher and higher (of course, the life insurance companies are raking in the profits). The U.S. still has private insurers, so to protect themselves, the health insurance companies get Congress to pass a law making “geezers” over 95 “open season” for killing. The health insurance companies hire “dispatchers” to take out the oldsters. Meanwhile, the life insurance companies protect their own turf and . . . .
I’ll leave the rest to your imagination, although the picture above probably gives you an idea of what happens. Anyway, after a few more years, I’ve decided to hire a professional illustrator, whose name is George Patsouras www.cgmythology.com. I really like his style.
To pay George for his illustrations and cover misellaneous marketing costs, I went to Kickstarter. The Kickstarter project is here www.kickstarter.com/... and it contains a link to the novel's text www.dropbox.com/… in case you’re interested in reading some of the book.
Right now, I’m enmeshed in trying to figure out how to market the Kickstarter project. Not that I can’t get help: as soon as I posted the project, I got five emails from people who market themselves as Kickstarter marketers! (Wouldn’t you know it).
Anyway, stay tuned.
