The magnificent speech Hillary gave on Thursday in which she eviscerated Donald Trump is being seen as a watershed speech, the moment when Hillary took it to Trump in earnest and made him look flustered and befuddled.
Post Politics ‘It’s the real Hillary coming out’: Supporters cheer Clinton’s new tone on Trump
When Hillary Clinton relentlessly criticized Donald Trump from a lectern in San Diego last week, supporters say they saw the candidate that they have been waiting for.
Even Clinton’s most ardent backers say that the speech revealed a new candidate: one who is authentic and unafraid to push boundaries.
“It was almost like Hillary Clinton was finally being herself,” said Brigitte Hunley, 46, who is the volunteer co-lead for Solano County for Hillary. “It was almost like she's really getting into her own groove. It's the real Hillary coming out.”
“Being herself is so appealing,” she added.
This is the real Hillary. Unafraid to speak her mind, ready to take the bully, racist and misogynist Donald Trump head on.
The speech was widely considered to be a watershed moment for Clinton and her campaign, marking their decision to take on Trump, head on. But has also infused her supporters with new enthusiasm.
Sherry E. Sherry, 65, has backed Clinton since 2008, and expected Clinton to largely ignore Trump — sticking to a strategy in the general election centered heavily on what Clinton describes as her “wonkish heart.”
Nobody does wonk better than Hillary. Her command of details is legend. Nobody tops her on that. But, time and place. Hillary will make Trump look positively uneducated and unprepared in any potential debates, and she will have substantial speeches throughout explaining her many Progressive plans in detail to the American people. So, there is a time for wonk. But there is also a time to unpack the hammer and get serious about the lack of seriousness of Donald Trump, the lack of consistency, knowledge and empathy. It is time to hit “The Donald” as the dangerous man he is.
At times dead panned, other times incredulous, Clinton delivered a cutting 35-minute assault on Trump that read like a greatest hits of his most controversial comments.
One aide described Clinton as being initially “reluctant” to go on the attack, worrying as many of her supporters do, that when she goes on the offense, it is often interpreted as overly negative.
Clinton delivered it soberly, reading from a teleprompter, and all the while her campaign wasn’t always sure of how it would be received. Inside the room at the Balboa Park Ballroom a mixture of invited guests and rank and file supporters created gave it a raucous reception. They cheered, laughed, and whooped in agreement.
Be reluctant no more, Hillary. That approach is a major winner. Use it early and often, with abandon. Trump’s weak responses in return and the complete lack of cutting responses in return from the GOP shows how much of a winner that speech and the overall approach is.
And, she has been hitting the same tone on the campaign trail since then. She is still the most prepared, the most knowledgeable, the most “wonkish” candidate we’ve had in decades, but she is also a determined fighter for what is right, and that “right” is not allowing crazy Donald Trump anywhere near the White House.
This is the “Women for Hillary” rally in Culver City, CA. Featured are several “Mothers of the Circle” and also celebrities ranging from Debra Messing and Mary Steenburgen to Sally Field. Many introductions and speeches lauding Hillary in this one, and it looks like a great and very energetic event, so if you have the time watch the whole thing. Go forward to around 1:17:00 to catch Hillary’s speech, it is a great one.
Hillary’s latest tweets on Donald Trump:
Hillary has found her inner voice. The real Hillary is here, for all to see and behold. It is GAME ON, and “The Donald” won’t know what hit him.
And, starting Wednesday with Barack and Michelle Obama by her side…. Starting to feel sorry for Donald, just a little.
