There is a song I want to hear in some lovely hit ads soon.
I’m sure a few of you remember the Squirrel Nut Zippers—a very fun band.
They were often credited as part of the late-90s swing revival, a jived-up retro movement that was partly a reaction to the tech-heavy sounds of the time. (I happen to love both, so have at the synth v. acoustic argument below, nerds.)
Well, those Squirrel Nut Zippers had a huge hit with their album “Hot,” 20 years ago this month. The track "Hell” blew up on commercial radio, which was something people listened to back then. (By the way, holy heck how did 20 years go by that soon?)
That album also had a track that got a little less play, but I hope you hear it again soon with images of one Donald J. Drumpf.
The track? “Bad Businessman.”
The tune is an earworm you won't mind being host to, but the lyrics have a story to say about today’s general election.
There's a man going around in the town
Spreading lies, he's the bad businessman
Does his business while he can
He just does his business bad
He's a clown,
going to get bounced around
If he don't keep his business underground
He's a player and every time he deals a round
It's just a bad hand, what a bad man
Beware of what he sells
Surely go straight to Hell
'Taint no bottom in that wishing well
Bad businessman
He's a clown, going get bounced around
If he don't keep his business underground
He's a player and every time he deals a round
It's just a bad hand, what a bad man
Beware of what he sells
Surely go straight to Hell
'Taint no bottom in that wishing well
Bad businessman, swing it
He's the bad businessman
He's the bad businessman
He's the bad businessman
I do not know anyone in the political ad business, but someone should make this happen.
