Greetings!
… and welcome to another Baja Arizona Kossacks Open Thread. I am your host today, providing a bit of Baja news and of course pictures from my backyard.
¡¡Big News!!

And now the less-important news…
Update: operation of the Arizona voter registration system has resumed.
We have this from the Arizona Secretary of State news blog page:
VRAZII back online
July 7, 2016
We have not found any evidence of malware or command and control software in the voter registration system, and have restored its use. Voters can check their registrations and EQUAL users can continue to collect five dollar contributions. We have implemented measures to ensure that access to the system is secure. For these reasons, we believe it is safe and prudent to turn the system back on and continue its use.
We apologize for the inconvenience; however the integrity of the system itself is extremely important.
Also, from the Tucson New Snow website and for those of you keeping score on these things:
Pima County Recorder, F. Ann Rodriguez confirmed that the county computer that was compromised is not a Pima County computer.
So there! There will be no blaming those awful Pima County liberals for this one.
Now, if you used the online system to change anything about your registration during the outage, your data was stored separately until the outage was resolved. Please check again before 1 August to verify that the changes you wanted were made correctly. If you changed in person using paper, those changes were also held but at least you have the paper record (from the bottom of the form). You should still check; there are ugly stories out there about voter registrations this year. Any changes must be complete & correct by the end of July to be effective for the primary held at the end of August.

And the Tucson City Council has something for everybody
The Tucson City Council voted unanimously to ban sales of certain types of guns at the Convention Center. So that only leaves 72 other places around Tucson to buy these things. But never fear, Gun Nuts! (Or at least take it back down to your usual elevated level, OK?) The new state law takes effect any day now that disallows cities from making laws that are more rational than the state's own demented laws, so this was probably just a meaningless gesture on the part of the Council anyway.

And here's a couple of pictures from my backyard:
Shown sideways; the lizard was actually facing downward on the wall. It let me take the picture, but was not happy about it. The blue color is what interested me.
If you move slowly and think kind thoughts, these lizards will let you pet them. They feel much softer than they look.
