It’s time to turn a red state blue.
Kansas has been the subject of any number of treatises on why its citizens seem to vote against their own best interests, chief among them being What's the Matter With Kansas?
It may surprise many to find out there is an active Democratic party in Kansas, and that there has been for a long time. Kathleen Sebelius is the best-known of our number.
William Ballard, whose picture I’ve included, is running for the 60th District seat in the Kansas House of Representatives. Our county actually went for Barack Obama in 2012 & Paul Davis (the Democratic candidate for governor) in 2014. The sitting representative was an Old School Republican, in the tradition of Dwight Eisenhower, and he’s fed up. And he decided to retire.
I’m the campaign treasurer. We’re facing an up-hill battle for funds. We know we’ll face one of 3 Republican opponents in November. We got signed up with ActBlue in order to help develop some non-local sources of funding.
If I’m anything, I’m pragmatic. I don’t expect the kind of funding our potential opponents will get. But we need to be at least able to cover radio & print ads and print up some yard signs. Maybe some t-shirts.
One of the key items for our sitting governor has been his “Glidepath to Zero.” Let’s face it, the glidepath has crashed & burned. We need all the help we can to help the state once again find its wings and soar.
