This is an emergency Open Thread prompted by uncertainty about today’s diarist. There will be very little health information in it beyond my noting, yes, as of the end of last week, I have survived the menacing phenomenon of derecho and, no, my stash of healthful emergency foods did not sustain me through the several days I (and thousands of others) went without electricity or even much certainty about what had happened. I mean, hey, once you’ve seen a tree flying by the window, what does it really matter anyway?
Instead, I resorted to junk food. Egg McMuffins. Hot dogs. You name it. And I feel every bit of it.
But, first, a message from our sponsor:
The Dkos Health and Wellness group meets up every Sunday at 8AM EDT to discuss aspects of health and wellness that impact our lives. Wellness is something that a lot of us are passionate about, and the intent of this group is to provide a forum for some serious discussion of how (and why) every one of us makes our physical and mental health a higher priority in our lives. If you'd like to follow our group, just go to the group page and click "follow". If you'd like to join the group and get involved, just ask!
The interesting thing is that, without electricity, there is no air conditioning and, without air conditioning, there is a tremendous desire to go outside and do stuff, even if it’s 95 degrees out. Granted the first day or so, the temps were quite mild—mid-80’s to maybe 90---so of course everyone wanted to go outside. However, something about the promise of boiling hot temperatures today and no air conditioning to soothe the demon brought even more people pouring out of their homes and into the streets and doing this and doing that and chopping up piles of wood from all those trees that went flying by a few days ago and pulling weeds and whatever.
Or maybe everyone was just bored, I dunno.
Of course, more prominent souls than myself were driven underground by the same system that had stuff flying past us.
What. Ever.
Anyway, I did get quite a few weed trees lopped off, and I managed to scrub the mildew off a section of the backside of the house and a few other thises and thats, but that hardly made up for all the Egg McMuffins. Today is a new day, however, and as far as I know, no catastrophes are in the forecast. So I’m picking myself back up and returning to my (somewhat) healthful ways. After I get a little sleep.
What about you?
