Since Republican Mike Pence has officially become the running mate of Donald Trump, more and more of his extreme right-wing views and dirty past have come to light and things get more disgusting as they leak out. His attacks on women have been particularly awful and his past views show just how misogynistic the GOP’s candidate for vice-president truly can be. Buzzfeed took a look back at an op-ed Pence wrote concerning the Disney movie “Mulan” and his statements on women, in general, and in the military, in particular, are some of the most offensive things you’ll ever see someone on a presidential ticket write. His final words in the piece are a gross preview of the rest: “women in military, bad idea.”
Pence begins the piece rather sweetly by saying he had spent Father’s Day watching the movie with his kids. And the article has that sweetness for all of that first sentence and nothing else.
After suggesting the movie is nothing more than a piece of liberal propaganda showing the criminal idea – in the minds of conservatives – of women being successful in the military, he then gets really offensive:
From the original “Tailhook” scandal involving scores of high ranking navy fighter pilots who molested subordinate women to the latest travesty at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the hard truth of our experiment with gender integration is that is has been an almost complete disaster for the military and for many of the individual women involved.
In other words, since Pence thinks “women in military, bad idea”, it’s the women that are to be blamed for wanting to serve their country and then having the audacity to get sexually assaulted by their superiors. This is Pence’s mentality toward women in uniform. If you haven’t puked yet, there’s more.
Housing, in close quarters, young men and women (in some cases married to non-military personnel) at the height of their physical and sexual potential is the height of stupidity.
Yeah, because we can train young men to fly billion dollar stealth air craft, use the most destructive weapons of war mankind has ever conjured, and kill when it’s necessary, but asking them to keep their man parts in their pants and their hands to themselves is the “height of stupidity“. Some might use that same phrase to describe a recent Republican candidate’s choice for his running mate…
You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting.
Finding someone attractive is not the same thing as sexual assault. Trying to use this type of language as an excuse to cover up the rampant amount of sexual assault in the military that has come light is appalling. Saying that men and women can’t live in close quarters without men eventually attacking them women is, again, blaming the victims of sexual assault and not addressing the actual problem. I mean, when the men who can’t control themselves sexually get out of the military, what then? Shouldn’t they have been taught not to be criminals by then?
And then Pence’s final words for all to see:
Moral of story: women in military, bad idea.
What an *sshole…
As someone with a grandmother who is buried next to a military plaque recognizing her service in World War II, these are some of the most ridiculous and vicious words I’ve ever seen from someone who wants to be a heartbeat away from being Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces. I can only say that the moral of this story: Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the White House, bad idea.
