So I raised my daughters to be independent in what they do and what they think. I also raised them to care, and haven’t been shy to share my political perspective. I’m middle-aged, I’m a veteran, I love the outdoors, and this time around I support Hillary Clinton. My daughter enthusiastically supported Bernie Sanders, and was really disappointed when it became clear he would not win the nomination. A few days ago we went over the Washington State primary ballot and I suggested some online resources she could use to research the candidates. She mentioned that in November she was thinking about voting for Jill Stein. I got over my “WTF?” moment pretty quickly, and didn’t say much although I did mention that a vote for a 3rd party candidate might be a vote for Donald Trump. She gets that, and it certainly does bother her. But her conscience is her conscience, and I respect her autonomy.
Now for the DKOS part: What does a thoughtful dad say to an independent daughter to give her food for thought regarding Jill Stein vs. Hillary Clinton? It’s her vote to cast and her mind to make up. I merely want to give her points of view that might clarify the choices and the issues at stake.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?
