Yeah, I know Trump is moving ahead in the polls and the race is tied in some battleground states like OH, and PA. But “straight talking” motor mouth ain’t saying much. Just because he uses small words and repeats himself — OFTEN, like REPEATEDLY — doesn’t mean he is actually saying anything notable.
Melania’s trainwreck of a speech was very instructive. Not because she plagiarized parts of the speech. Not because her delivery was wooden. No one expects much from a model who didn’t finish college. I’ll be charitable and give her credit for getting through the whole thing without blowing it.
So what does this have to do with Trump and his glaring weakness?
Simple, the fact that he would put Melania on prime time TV and let her embarrass herself like that tells the world:
1) They are lazy.
2) They are sloppy.
3) They are arrogant.
There’s a reason for that. The campaign accurately reflects the personality of the candidate.
Oh, and one more thing. He doesn’t care what happens to anyone around him, so long as he gets good ratings.
As if that is not enough, there is clearly no central coordination to the campaign. That’s fine if you want to run a reality TV show where plot twists, embarrassment and drama are all the rage. But it is no way to run a government. Lazy, sloppy and arrogant will get you into trouble. Ask Dubya, Ask Saddam Hussein. Ask Muammar Qaddafi. Ask Hugo Chavez. Ask Boris Yeltsin. Ask Yassir Arafat. Ask Adolf Hitler.
Lazy, sloppy and arrogant is the trifecta that keeps on giving.
Yeah, I know, but Trump’s brand of lazy, sloppy and arrogant is different! He will have the force of the US military behind him! Bullshit. The problems the president faces are usually not amenable to military solutions. If military might is all you need to win, Iraq would be paradise. Afghanistan would be a country club. The Middle East would be Shangri La.
When it comes to the economy, bellicose and belligerent might work at the retail level. You can always find some But Finance ministers don’t tolerate bullshit and con games. You want to “renegotiate” terms on US debt instruments? Go ahead. Watch your credit rating rating go down the drain while interest rates spike up and the deficit explodes. FYI — the last time the US defaulted on its debt foreign troops had invaded Washington and the White House was on fire.
We really want to set everything on fire, only this time with nukes?
Lazy, sloppy and arrogant — those are all good reasons to be fired.
Lazy, sloppy and arrogant — even better reasons to not get hired in the first place.
