While many of his supporters are still distraught over the Clinton/Kaine ticket, Bernie Sanders kept his eye on the prize Monday afternoon, telling delegates in Philadelphia: "We have got to defeat Donald Trump; and we have got to elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine!"
Even as some of his supporters booed loudly, Sanders put up his hand to command attention, remaining resolute:
"Brothers and sisters, brothers and sisters, this is, this is the real world that we live in. Trump is a bully and a demagogue. Trump has made bigotry and hatred the cornerstone of his campaign. Throughout this campaign he has insulted Mexicans and Latinos, he has insulted Muslims, he has insulted women and African Americans. [...] Trump does not respect the Constitution of the United States or civil liberties. [...] Trump is a danger for the future of our country and must be defeated! And I intend to do everything I can to see that he is defeated."
Sanders assured the delegates that, together, they would continue to fight to increase worker pay, provide universal health care coverage, fight climate change, reform the criminal justice system, and provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Watch the video below.
