Like many I fumed at the hecklers, especially when they attempted to drown out Warren. After exhausting my overly extensive list of swear words one of Michelle wonderful lines struck me: "Hillary never gave up."
Well the same could be said of just about everyone in the room and listening closely tonight. A young colleague congratulated me on being so happy today. After mouthing off about it being “old broad’s week,” I stopped and said “you don't understand, I rarely win (I.e. my first choice).” But like a moth to a flame I always return in election season, even now as only a small donor.
But for most in Philidelphia tonight, this is their life’s work. Even now professional organizers are scrambling for their next job/campaign. The most successful learn from every loss and don't burn bridges.
Unlike the real professionals and party loyalists, the Bernie or Bust crowd are dilettantes. The Internet offers a wealth of information without requiring them to sit in meetings, fold leaflets, or knock on doors (in rainy or hot weather). They can attend fun demonstrations, party afterwards, and feel connected. (Honestly I thought some might cry after Silverman went after them; suddenly they wouldn't be cool.)
Every major election cycle they return fuming over Dem’s failure to cater to them while having nothing in between cycles. They warn young idealistic volunteers how none of it matters unless you disrupt things. When experienced candidates ignore disruption Bernie or Bust types use it as “proof.”
Solutions elude me tonight but maybe Barrack or Bill can say “you lost, sit down, and shut up."
