Yesterday I witnessed a scene that is actually quite common to me.
Supposed “Progressives” booing speeches by real Progressives.
Supposed “Progressives” declaring loudly their opposition to the Democratic Party and their nominee Hillary Clinton.
Such nonsense from nonsensical people is to be expected whenever you get a group of Leftists, supposed Leftists, self-declared Leftists and ignorant Leftists together in the same room. A minority only feels empowered if they are trying to tear down what everybody else is trying to build up.
But let’s be clear. These people are not “progressives”. They are Regressives.
Regressives literally believe that the “working class” (old school regressives used to call them the ‘proletariat’) can only advance by going backward. The victory of conservative or Republican forces in their minds is actually a victory for their eventual goals (whatever they may be; usually a collection of vague social changes that defy reality). Only by going back to the dark ages, can enlightenment occur.
Regressives are commonly found in terrorist and quasi-terrorist circles as the “logic” is the same. Simply, the political terrorist believed that if they made life in their countries unbearable, then true advancement through revolution would occur. Non-violent regressives have a similar mind-set. By letting Trump, or the Republicans, or reactionary forces win, the result will be such a disaster for so many people that the backlash will be all the more extreme. The end product will be the revolution that they fantasize about so dearly. As for the pain, misery, death and suffering along the way? Well, “you don’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs”. After all “The end justifies the means.”
Consequently, regressives do not want incremental steps forward. They do not want partial victories or small wins. They want misery. They want suffering. In this way, the “enemies of the people” will be overthrown and destroyed and a “pure” revolution can occur. To the regressive, the results of the 2000 election of George Bush and the terrorism, death, war, police state, torture, etc, that followed was actually a victory for their cause. To them, the massive steps backward in civilized society, resulted in significant victories later. They deeply resent Barack Obama for trying to unite the nation and undoing much of the misery Bush had caused. In their minds, Obama set back the goal of the revolution by decades.
It is important to keep in mind that many people filling the halls of the Democratic Convention are not progressives. They do not want the Democratic party to succeed. They are not Bernie Sanders supporters and had Bernie actually won the primary, they would have supported him only until he won the election. Then they would have turned on him with the same ferocity that they turned on Barack Obama almost from the day he accepted his electoral win.
In this election, keep in mind who the opposition is: The Republicans, Donald Trump, Vladamir Putin and the Regressives. The Regressives are the only ones claiming to be Democrats.
