I’ve made this point many a times, using the exact same language:
She’s been caricatured by the right and by some folks on the left; accused of everything you can imagine – and some things you can’t. But she knows that’s what happens when you’re under a microscope for 40 years.
If everything you do is scrutinized the way Hillary is, people would find plenty of reasons to hate you too. And thus, with Clinton, people paint that caricature. And while no one is claiming she’s perfect (even her), she is much better than what even her biggest fans realize.
And if you’re serious about our democracy, you can’t afford to stay home just because she might not align with you on every issue. You’ve got to get in the arena with her, because democracy isn’t a spectator sport. America isn’t about “yes he will.” It’s about “yes we can.” And we’re going to carry Hillary to victory this fall, because that’s what the moment demands.
And outside the convention, a bunch of irrelevant morons are waving around anti “oligarch” signs and burning American flags. Yeah, good luck accomplishing anything except expressing rage. Real change is real hard, and takes lots of work.
Real revolutions are messy, bloody, and they seldom end up the way you wish it had.
