Spectacular love fest at the DNC. Could not have asked for more. I love my President. I love him unconditionally, forever. The emotion, the love, the gratitude in his voice — towards me, towards us — just tore at my heart. He cannot leave me because he has played such a big part in almost a decade of my life.
This is a Democracy. Some individuals win and some individuals lose, but we always do whatever we do together as a country. Barack knows that. It was his best speech, his true heart, and it was his good-bye. And hopefully it was the death of Trumpism, as historic and meaningful as when we overcame fascism, nazism, and other threats to America.
While my eyes were tearing uncontrollably my heart was swelling with pride. These are my people. This is my country. The Democratic Party and Democracy is working. We’re all invited to join in. We have cookies, and showers if you were in Cleveland.
Thank You, Barack. We will love you forever.
This was just the first 3 paragraphs until I got re listening to speeches. If you are into the brevity ignore the following, which I hope you enjoy.
It was one of the best days of my life, especially because I refused to allow myself or my family to watch it on cable where on CNN where the tone-deaf Jake Tapper and the always Debbie Downer Dana Bash make things up while Wolf Blitzer looks on making sounds like an insane owl.
I can’t even with MSNBC anymore. If I had to hear Rachel Maddow say one more time that she was a political junkie and the Trump campaign was an endless source of fun and revenue I was going to lose it. As much as the Republican Party made Trump and his followers, the media encouraged lucrative anti-Clinton, anti-Democratic and anti-progressive memes for decades to emulate the stanky, LCD business model of Roger Ailes and Fox.
Every sentence of Obama’s speech was a history lesson, a description of how we got to where we are today, and a map of how to move forward while leaving the fetid dross behind us. It was a good bye speech for sure, though. It was his exit interview with the people that hired him, that love him, and that he loves. Listen to it and share it from demconvention.org or c-span.org or even YouTube. The history of this country is literarily in our hands. So far I’ve heard 12 of the most inspiring speeches I’ve ever heard in my life. Share them!
Barack will be on the campaign trail, giving every last bit of love and wisdom and hope and encouragement back to the people he loves. He so nailed why so many people love him, and how we have always shared the same values. He asked us to carry Hillary and Tim and all those people throughout the country running to share these quintessentially Democratic values in statehouses and CDs throughout the country like we did for him.
His humility, his fairness, his love of family and work and helping people out may now, tragically, be exceptional for the Republic Party and not-Putin permitted or endorsed by the Trump Tea Bagging hordes of the new fugly version of the GOP, but they are values that are shared by every Democrat I know that has an open mind and heart.
People I know are distressed and flailing and confused by Trumpism and it’s raw sewage ugliness. There actually was a time when Republican legislators like Tim Kaine’s father in law Ex-Governor Linwood existed as esteemed members of the GOP. Republicans and Independents half his age — possibly about 70% of those that voted in the Republican Party — are also in deep pain. Reach out to them. Let’s take the House back, too!
I think Obama and many other representatives of the values of the Democratic Party will be spreading out throughout the entire country and clearly demonstrating that we do not want to be ruled, we want to be heard, given consideration and given the opportunity to earn respect by not giving up on what we believe in. Disengagement is cowardly, not a statement of protest or non-violence if it directly elects GOP members.
One of the most brilliant things Obama said tonight was that for the history of our country progress has meant fighting every day. Every time we have the responsibility to vote for any reason — even if we are not running for office ourselves — and every day we are not being asked to vote but to monitor, support, or criticize those we have voted can not be relegated to others. It can not be relegated to “The Only One”.
Every day it’s up to you. It’s up to me. We can do it together. It’s that audacious hope thing. It’s that this isn’t a reality show, this is reality thing. Let’s do this.
