Thursday morning I was listening to a local talk radio station in south Florida on my way to a meeting. One of the shows hosts, Brian Mudd, son of news reporter Roger Mudd, went on a rant about Hillary Clinton. He ranted about her e-mails and how they could put our country in danger if they were hacked. Because of this she shouldn’t be eligible to run for President of our country. He didn’t say that Hillary’s e-mails were never hacked but some government ones were.
He said that our Constitution has only one duty for a President, only one, and that’s to keep our citizens safe. Nothing else. In his opinion, her handling of the e-mails proved that she couldn’t be trusted to handle sensitive information. He didn’t mention that Condalezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeline Albright all publicly said that they did the same thing. He clearly has no problem with that. The lie is about the duties of the President that he emphatically kept repeating.
If you read the constitution, these are the duties you will find:
-
Serving as commander-in-chief
-
Carrying out legislation
-
Setting foreign policy
-
Appointing key personnel
-
Presenting the State of the Union
-
Pardoning felons Looks like more than one to me.
His second lie was about Benghazi and how Hillary was responsible for the American deaths there. He didn’t mention that eight Republican led congressional committees came to the conclusion that she did nothing wrong.
He spoke with such authority that anyone who didn’t know better would take his lies as fact.
We all know that America is a great country because of the freedoms we enjoy. One of the most basic freedoms is our freedom of speech. Sometimes though, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. When someone uses public media like radio, TV, newspapers, or magazines to state something as fact, there should be some requirement that it is true. To deliberately mislead people is not a good thing for our country. If the statements that are made are clearly identified as a personal opinion that would be fine. There is much too much misinformation being spread in our country and that’s very bad for all of us.
