This is not about some revelation that I had this past week. This is something that Jezebel reminded me of this week. The first time I ever got captivated by a political convention was 1996. I don’t remember a single speaker, or a single electrifying moment. But that summer, I was home from college, watching a lot of TV. My parents had a cable box but wouldn’t spring for the remote (that was extra) and so I had to manually go through each channel. I got to CSPAN, and the DNC was in full swing, and was in a dance break. And that was the year of the Macarena at the DNC. I didn’t much care for the speeches that year, but couldn’t stop watching the dancing. I can’t figure out how to embed the video — but now that its online, I still can’t stop watching.
