In case you missed it—and you probably did—Donald Trump also rolled out a new surrogate in North Carolina just after President Obama gave a rousing endorsement of Hillary Clinton. Who was it? Sen. Bob Corker, who was supposedly auditioning for VP because he would lend a Trump ticket both “establishment” and “foreign policy” heft. Right. Here was Corker's opener:
"I wasn't going to say anything. I just came to visit."
Don't hold back, Bob, tell it like it is—we can handle the truth! After warming up the crowd, Corker prattled on for a minute about his "remarkable" day meeting Trump's kids and lamenting the notion that all too often "people become caricatures of what the media makes them." Trump has apparently been misrepresented by the media as the parody of a reality TV star turned politician.
"Somebody once told me it's not who you know in life, it's how you know them," Corker added. (So true, Bob, but you're really sucking all the energy out of the room. Where's the hook?!)
"I'm taking up his time," he concluded mercifully, before muddling his transition back to Trump. "The pres — the Republican nominee for president, Donald Trump." Yeah, couldn't quite squeeze out, "The next president of the United States, Donald Trump!" We feel ya, Bob.
Have a look below at the most forgettable 2:30 minutes of the week’s campaign theatrics below.
Let's just remember that some media critiques have suggested that campaigning next to Obama wasn't necessarily a positive for Hillary.
For real?? Ok, let’s compare—here's a couple minutes from the Hillary-Obama stop yesterday.
Go ahead, take your pick: Corker or Obama? Yeah, that's what we thought. And apparently so did Corker, who’s withdrawn his name from consideration.
