As we have all seen, Donald Trump has gone after Mr. Khizr Khan, a Muslim and father of fallen hero Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2004 by an advancing vehicle loaded with hundreds of pounds of explosives. Mr. Trump has campaigned on banning Muslims from coming to America. At the DNC Convention, Mr. Khan stated:
“Let me ask you, have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy,” he said, pulling a copy of the document from his pocket.
“Look for the words ‘liberty’ and ‘equal protection of law.’ Have you ever been to Arlington National Cemetery? Go look at the graves of the brave patriots who died defending this country,” he said.
“You have sacrificed nothing,” he said, to roars from the crowd. “We cannot solve our problems by building walls. We are stronger together. We will keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our president.”
How did The Donald react?
“I was viciously attacked by Mr. Khan at the Democratic Convention. Am I not allowed to respond?”
This is what he said:
“Who wrote that? Did Hillary’s scriptwriters write it? I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”
“If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.”
Contrast that with what Ms. Patricia Smith, mother of slain State Department official Sean Smith said at the RNC:
My son Sean was one of four brave Americans killed during the 2012 terrorist attack at Benghazi.
….To this day, I don’t even know why a computer guy like Sean was sent to Benghazi.
That night, we lost sons, brothers, fathers, and husbands.
We lost four brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country they chose to serve.
And, the American people lost the truth.
For all of this loss, for all of this grief, for all of the cynicism the tragedy in Benghazi has wrought upon America, I blame Hillary Clinton.
I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son.
In an email to her daughter shortly after the attack, Hillary Clinton blamed it on terrorism.
But when I saw Hillary Clinton at Sean’s coffin ceremony, just days later, she looked me squarely in the eye and told me a video was responsible.
She blamed Hillary as if it was Mrs. Clinton herself who attacked the embassy and killed her son. Here is what she said in response to Ms. Smith’s speech at the convention:
She was asked a question about Ms. Smith’s remark at the CNN Debate back in March. Here is how she responded:
“I feel a great deal of sympathy for the families of the four brave Americans that we lost at Benghazi, and I certainly can’t even imagine the grief that she has for losing her son, but she’s wrong. She’s absolutely wrong. I and everybody in the administration, all the people she named, the president, the vice president, Susan Rice, we were scrambling to get information that was changing literally by the hour, and when we had information, we made it public. But then sometimes we had to go back and say we have new information that contradicts it. So I testified for 11 hours. Anybody who watched that and listened to it knows that I answered every question that I was asked and when it was over, the Republicans had to admit they didn’t learn anything. Why? Because there had already been one independent investigation, there had been seven or eight congressional investigations, mostly led by Republicans who all reached the same conclusions, that there were lessons to learned. And this is not the first time we lost Americans in a terrorist attack. We lost 3,000 people on 9/11. We lost Americans serving in embassies in Tanzania and Kenya when my husband was president. We lost 250 Americans when Ronald Reagan was president in Beirut. At no other time were those tragedies politicized. Instead people said, let’s learn the lesson and save lives. That’s when I did.”
Hillary tried to set the record straight. This was done in response to a question at the Democratic debate. Trump tweeted his response to the world attacking a Gold Star Family.
I don’t see the comparisons.
