Last night, Roger Stone retweeted an accusation that Khizr Khan is an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood working for Hillary Clinton. His source was a crazed conspiracy theory originating on a far-right wing discredited website. The tweet has taken off like wildfire across the right wing net.
From Talking Points Memo:
In a lengthy post published Sunday, Shoebat and his son Theodore {the original posters} argue that Khizr Khan, who made an emotional appeal Thursday at the Democratic National Convention to vote for Hillary Clinton to honor his son, "wants to advance Sharia Law and bring Muslims into the United States."
The grammatically-challenged post concludes that Khan's academic work on Islamic law, along with his work in immigration legal services, means he is a jihadi. The writers also group Captain Khan in with so-called "Muslim martyrs" who they accuse of being double agents for the U.S. and Al-Qaeda.
"Is it likely that Khan’s son was killed before his Islamist mission was accomplished? Only another type of investigation will determine that," the blog reads.
That post came the same day that the Islamic State said Captain Khan died as an "apostate.”
Yesterday, Khizr Khan described the welcoming crowd of supporters in the lobby of their hotel, all reaching out to shake their hands and congratulate them. It's obvious that they do not have a protective detail. Stone may know that this accusation is crap. But he also knows that the factually-unmoored Trump supporters will completely believe it. This is intentional Reckless Endangerment, a whipping up of TrumpTards in order to foment violent attitudes and perhaps action.
I can only pray that the Khans are not harmed. The Trump campaign, through its actor Roger Stone, has sunk so low that it’s hard to believe that they can drop further. But there are still three months to go. they They will probably fall lower than the bottom of the newly-discovered world's deepest sinkhole. We are facing a lunatic and his mob.
