The NRA has found a very special angle for its new $3 million round of advertising against Hillary Clinton:
The spot – which calls Clinton “out of touch” for living under Secret Service protection while promoting gun restrictions – is the biggest single ad buy for Trump this cycle and it brings the NRA’s total spending this cycle to around $6 million.
Um. Do they not realize that one of the reasons people like Clinton need armed guards is because of the threat of assassination from, you know, people with the easy access to guns the NRA exists to push? It’s a hilarious suck-up to the egos of gun owners, though, to suggest that their use of guns to defend themselves—something far less likely than them killing themselves or family members with said guns—is in any way equivalent to Secret Service protection.
Meanwhile, the NRA moved quickly to quash any dissent in its ranks over Trump’s “Second Amendment” comments Tuesday. But while Trump’s done a good job getting the NRA and its millions of dollars on his side, he’s left himself without many other allies: Politico reports that “No other major political group is spending money on the Republican nominee.”
