Throughout the entire election analysis segment on The Rachel Maddow show, with Steve Kornacki hosting, the discussion centered on how far ahead Hillary was in the polls and the electoral path to her victory. The electoral maps now shows that there is a strong likelihood based on the most recent polls that she has 273 electoral votes, three more than she needs to win.
Friday night Rachel Maddow Show
Unless I missed it, one word was never uttered: landslide.
The word landslide has been said with hesitation and an emphasis on the word “possibility" by other liberals on MSNBC.
It is quite clear to me that even though we tend to be a skeptical lot, liberals still have a streak of superstition in their makeup.
How many off us have a lucky article of clothing or very personal talisman? Every culture has their own.
For example, we may say “Hillary’s probably going to win in a landslide…” and then —
choose one:
- knock on wood
- rub the rabbit’s foot
- touch the horseshoe
- kiss the four leaf clover
- cross your fingers
- kiss your lucky penny
Have you said the word “landslide” out loud? I haven’t. But I think I will today in my usual morning political discussion with my friends at Waterfalls, our senior community coffee shop. The table has wood on it so you can be sure I will knock on it.
What are your superstitions? Are you one of the few that don’t have any?
