Has anybody else noticed that many of the states which have restrictive absentee/mail-in voting happen to be red or battleground states? If you stop and think about it, it’s a lot more difficult to get down-ballot votes when a disheartened voter has to physically show up versus opening an envelope.
This is not a comprehensive list, but the following states have no or restrictive absentee voting, or require physical delivery of an absentee vote:
Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia
Now, of course in the case of Arkansas, Alabama and the like, there will be no national ramifications (although it is possible that lonely Blue political oases may have some pleasant local surprises) owing to this electoral detail, BUT…
Think about the fact that in the states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia and Missouri, Republicans need maximum turnout on election day to elect their candidates. And this is during an electoral season in which Donald Trump is acting like a drunken, crazed clown with a cigarette at a kids birthday party, popping balloons willy-nilly !
The irony in all of this is delicious. Hopefully, this will inform Democratic strategy going forward. I would love to see some more money going to the Missouri races, particularly governor; it’s nice watching Blount sweat. Plus, I hear that Katie McGinty has bitchin’ swag for anyone who contributes $25!...
