I would like to encourage us to be gracious to all Republicans who have the courage to love their country, more than their party. When a Republican like Meg Whitman stands up, we should stand with her — with respect and appreciation. As Michelle Obama called upon us to do. We must all go high, no matter how low parts of their party go.
At first, I must admit that was delighted to watch their party become an embarrassing train wreck. However, the more I’ve thought about it, the I am deeply saddened I’m becoming that has happened, and I think our dear land is in great danger. Our great nation works best when we have two, loyal oppositional parties working together to work out compromises in order to make our great country an even more perfect union.
So, while the temptation may be great to revel in their current civl war, and to call them every name, in return for every name they have called us, the Republicans who are choosing country over party are doing a very, very difficult thing. And, I welcome their aid in defeating the dangerous demagogue infecting our fellow countrymen and women with hate, discord, and crazy conspiracy theories.
I’m going to try to follow the example of our First Lady, and will gladly welcome and appreciate all the Republicans and Independents who will fight like hell with me by donating, doing canvassing and GOTV, and voting to protect our great country from the likes of Donald Trump. This includes avoiding the temptation to gloat or follow Trump’s playbook by calling names. We simply must do more than win. We must obliterate Trumpism, and then, begin the work to love and heal our great nation … and move forward, Stronger Together.
