Bonnabel High School in the Jefferson Parish Public School (JPPS) system in Louisiana is dealing with a bit of controversy. Their high school football team decided to voice their allegiance to the nationwide conversation about race and justice going on in our country. They decided to voice this protest by kneeling during the National Anthem. This has ruffled some law enforcement feathers.
“My understanding is, we’ve had some officers that said they will not work the Bonnabel High football games,” Sheriff Newell Normand said. “I understand why, in light of Colin Kaepernick's comments, specifically when he says, ‘Cops are getting paid leave for killing people.’ That's not right, that's not right by anyone's standards. The fact of the matter is we risk our lives each and every day for the safety and security of our constituency throughout this country.”
Now some deputies won’t sign up for the volunteer security detail because the players took a knee.
Actually? That’s exactly right. That’s 100 percent right by facts that have been presented in video evidence after video evidence of black people being shot and killed by police and then those police officers receiving no punishment, let alone a financial one.
Normand said his deputies sometimes won’t volunteer for security details during concerts or events if they don’t agree with the artist or message.
Oh, so basically, the officers saying they won’t volunteer for overtime pay are protesting? Gotcha. Sounds pretty un-American to me. You should probably tell those cops to go back to Russia.
