Breaking story this morning, a commuter train travelling to Hoboken, NJ has crashed in station. Hoboken is the last stop for several NJ Transit commuter lines and has a rail block guard to designate the end of the line. There is a pedestrian walkway orthogonal to the rail guards of all the tracks in the station.
From pictures (see below), it seems as if the train continued past the normal rail block into that pedestrian walkway. Early reports indicate multiple injuries, including some severe. I hope the injuries do not escalate and are treated quickly and carefully.
This view gives those unfamiliar with the layout of Hoboken Station an idea of how the train ended up. That concrete area is filled with passengers during the morning rush hour commute.
I have to run to lab meeting shortly, but I will update later this morning. Users can also post updates in the comments.
