ONGOING: Bill Weld drop-out story reignited by Anne Gearen of WaPo on Chris Mathews tonight.

Originally title BREAKING, but after some nasty comments calling this old news, changed…. but the new part is that Bernstein discussed it Sunday on CNN and it was mentioned by Anne Geared on Chris Mathews tonight. Sometimes new scoops are like waves, a big one breaks and then amounts to nothing, but then the sneaker wave comes in and it REALLY breaks.

Anne Gearen (from the Washington Post) on Chris Mathew’s “Tell Us Something We Don’t Know” segment at the end of the hour brought this up.

Anne Gearan is a political correspondent for The Washington Post, and the paper’s lead campaign reporter covering Hillary Clinton.

She writes daily campaign stories and analysis and appears frequently on television to provide reporting and analysis on Clinton and the 2016 race.  www.pbs.org/… 

Needless to say, Carl Bernstein is an associate editor for the Post. I presume it isn’t a coincidence that Gearen dropped this tidbit as her “Tell Us Something We Don’t Know” on Chris Mathews.  Correction, Bob Woodward is an associate editor for the Post. Bernstein is an author (recently wrote A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He’s a  Visiting Presidential Professor at Stoney Brook University and a regular political commentator on CNN.

 On CNN Carl Bernstein said he has known Bill Weld for a long time and said he despises Trump.

Now, famous journalist Carl Berstein is speculating that Johnson’s VP running mate Bill Weld is ready to drop out of the race and endorse Hillary Clinton for President.

Bernstein told CNN's Brian Stelter Sunday that his sources say Weld is "thinking about dropping out of this race if it looks like he and Johnson might get Trump elected."

Bernstein reported that his sources say Weld is worried about detracting support from Clinton, but Weld called Bernstein's reporting "wishful thinking" in a statement to CNN.

Gary Johnson blames ‘troll army’ for rumor that running mate might quit , Johnson denying rumors:

"Occasionally you get a question that is just so out of left field that I answered it with: Bull----," Johnson said at the annual Texas Tribune Festival.

Friends of William Weld, the former governor of Massachusetts whose ticket has given boosts in fundraising and gravitas, have said for days that Donald Trump's recovery in the polls had given him second thoughts about running as a "spoiler." In a CNN interview on Sept. 18, former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein said "there could be some pressure brought on" Weld by his friends, warning him that he could pull votes from Hillary Clinton and hand the presidency to Trump.

"Bill Weld does not want to be Ralph Nader, and help elect a president of the United States such as Nader did in Florida in the case of George Bush," Bernstein said, referring to the 2000 election. "There's a real underlying story here, and I think in the next few days we're gonna have a chance to look at it."

Weld quickly dismissed the story as "wishful thinking" and said in a statement that "under no circumstances will our energies be diverted from our goal of winning the election and serving our country."

Of course, it may be a fantasy troll army of Hillary supporters fearful that as the race tightens the Libertarian ticket could make the difference between a win or loose. However, Carl Bernstein is a reputable journalist who has been right before….
