UPDATE 1:30 PM ET
It’s over! Thank you to all who participated. :) Please read the beautiful and empowering "Let the record show I did not consent to this" by Onomastic.
Hey, everyone.
Thank you for joining me along with other House of LIGHTS peeps. As you might have heard, there was this immense, superstar event planned today at noon for a coronation. Only that didn’t work out so well. Even Mother Nature seems determined to rain on this fools parade and as such, an official Revision To The No-Umbrella Policy.
Most of the entertainers who were invited said NO.
The Wrap is reporting that Team #NotMyPresident has even gone so far as to offer ambassadorships to at least two talent bookers, in addition to large amounts of cash and potential diplomatic positions.
And we too can say NO to watching this il-legitimate (h/t Senator John Lewis) clown show by just turning our TVs and radios off.
This is an open thread and everyone is welcome. We’re here to spend some time together in a safe space and to support one another. Please hold on to your videos and photos of Pee-OTIS as these may be disturbing to others.
House of LIGHTS (Loving Inspiration, Giving Hope To Survivors) is a place for survivors of physical, sexual, psychological, and emotional abuse, assaults, and bullying. A place for the people who support them. A quiet place for all voices to be heard. A safe place where we can learn to educate, support, and protect our children and each other.
You may have heard The Starfish Story by Loren Eisely, but it seems to have new meaning today. We’re not alone. There are hundreds of thousands of protestors in Washington, DC.
We all have the opportunity to help create positive change, but if you’re like me, you sometimes find yourself thinking, “I’m already really busy, and how much of a difference can I really make?” I think this is especially true when we’re talking about addressing massive social problems like tackling world hunger or finding a cure for cancer, but it pops up all of the time in our everyday lives, as well. So when I catch myself thinking that way, it helps to remember this story. You might not be able to change the entire world, but at least you can change a small part of it, for someone.
Our friend and fellow Kossack Chauncey DeVega has a brilliant essay in Salon today: (One photo.)
This is my version of liberal Schadenfreude — with slightly more hostile intent. I doubt that I am alone in adopting this new distraction and source of pleasure.
The butcher’s bill is due.
There are many examples of Trump’s voters and their increasing pain and anxiety.
The Instagram site “Trumpgrets” is also a source of great entertainment.
American conservatives love to preach the gospel of “personal responsibility.” Perhaps Trump’s voters will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal responsibility for what is to come, in the very near future, from their president and his administration.
Today is Inauguration Day. The butcher’s bill has come due. America, how will you pay it?
My own prediction and I’m not a betting gal, is that this is the last stand for wealthy white conservative males in the White House. There may not be another Republican president in my lifetime or yours. We’ll see how this works, sabes, over the next four years.
Today, we can laugh, cry, vent, listen. This is an open thread and we can talk about anything on your mind. Here you will find again that you’re not alone, and you can talk about anything (within the auspices of site policies).
Welcome to the House of LIGHTS.
