Are you kidding me? After trying all day to get through to one of Sen. Ron Johnson’s offices, I finally got through to his Milwaukee office. When I asked when Johnson would release a statement about Trump’s Muslim ban, the guy said, “He wants to study it for a couple of days before he releases a statement.” What?!?!
Okay, so he’s my senator, and I know he’s an absolute coward when it comes to dealing with controversial issues. But you'd think that, as Chairman of the Freaking Homeland Security Committee, he’d have something to say. He doesn’t. Even though we’re either in or close to a Constitutional crisis. Even though hundreds of families are in limbo, and some of them are still stranded in airports. Even though jihadists are ecstatic that the President basically admitted that we’re officially at war with Islam. Even though some Muslim countries — specifically those where Trump has extensive business dealings — aren’t included in the ban. Even though three of those same countries were home to the 9/11 terrorists.
So, I called the Washington bureau for the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel and spoke with reporter Craig Gilbert. I told him that Johnson wasn’t going to release a statement for a couple of more days, and asked if perhaps a reporter could get a quicker response. He said that he’s been trying to get a statement and can’t. And so far, the article he’s working on for tomorrow will say that Johnson has not made a statement.
Summary: the Chair of the Homeland Security Committee is so spineless that he can’t express his views about the Muslim ban. And he’s hiding from reporters. People, this does not bode well for our security...
